Barack Obama Senior Advisers

Senior Adviser - David Axelrod

Mr. Axelrod will serve as Senior Adviser to the president, with the power to oversee all
presidential decisions and to meet with the president at any time.

Axelrod has been Obama's Chief Strategist during his successful 2004 campaign for one of
Illinois's US Senate seats and the 2008 presidential campaign and was expected to follow
the President-elect into the White House.

Axelrod attended the University of Chicago where he majored in political science. He has
spent most of his political career in Chicago, first as a reporter for the Chicago
Tribune where at the age of 27, became the City Hall Bureau Chief, then as a consultant.
He was an adviser to Harold Washington, Chicago's first African-American mayor, and was
introduced to Barack Obama more than a decade ago as the then-state senator rose through
the ranks of the Illinois political scene.
